Hey folks! Over the past few weeks, The Font Wandsworth 2.0 has been through a big transition, and we want to share some clear, honest context about what’s changing, why it’s happening in stages, and what you can expect next (zero jargon).
For reasons outside of our control, the move into 2.0 happened fast. Much faster than originally planned (approx 5 months sooner than expected!)
Our intention was always to transition gradually, allowing time to refine the space while we ran the two Wandsworth sites side-by-side (OG and 2.0). Instead, circumstances meant we needed to consolidate faster, and once the doors were open, the priority became keeping the centre running smoothly while we planned the next phase properly.
That’s why improvements are arriving in stages rather than all at once. It’s a deliberate approach: build carefully, avoid unnecessary disruption, and make changes that last.
Some of the most important pieces are already landing:
OG Font holds are returning to the walls, bringing back the familiar feel, style, and movement that many of you love. Pirate Burgers are back, available via QR codes around the centre, with food delivered directly to your table. The bar is returning. Our application for a full licence is underway, and in the meantime we’ll be running bar pop-ups during events and key evenings (PCL qualifiers for example)
These are the immediate wins, the things that help the space feel more social, more recognisable, and more like The Font.
Alongside day-to-day climbing, we’re working on a series of physical upgrades that will roll out over the coming months:
We’re in the process of building a new studio space, allowing us to better support classes, movement sessions and events, while improving the overall flow of the space.
A higher-quality, zoned sound system is on the way. This means better audio where it’s needed, and calmer areas where it’s not, bringing back the vibes.
We know the current lighting isn’t exactly subtle. We’re changing things up to create a warmer, more comfortable environment, while also allowing for better event lighting when it matters.
We’re reviewing how the training area is used, with the goal of making it more functional, better laid out, and more supportive of structured training, without compromising space elsewhere.
Each of these upgrades requires planning, approvals, and careful sequencing, which is why they’re being rolled out step by step.
The Font Wandsworth OG was all about the vibe and we are bringing that over to 2.0. The new centre will continue to host major events, competitions and social sessions, including high-profile climbing events alongside regular Font favourites like Font Fest. These moments are a big part of what brings the space to life, and future improvements are being designed with events, spectating, and social connection in mind.
Event details will always be shared in advance. Sign up to our newsletter so you don’t miss out.
As The Font Wandsworth is now part of a wider Font family (Borough, Hounslow, Reading and Southampton) this means investment, upgrades, and development are being balanced across multiple sites, not just one location. Some original timelines for Wandsworth have shifted as a result, but this approach allows us to build more sustainably and consistently across the whole network.
The goal isn’t quick fixes, it’s long-term quality and we want to thank you for bearing with us. Your patience, feedback and support genuinely help shape what comes next. Font Wandsworth 2.0 is still evolving, and we’re excited about where it’s heading.
We’ll keep this page updated as new developments land. Thanks for being part of the journey.
We would love to hear your thoughts, feedback and suggestions. These can be left at our online form here.
See you on the wall,
The Font team x
