Why you should get Personal Training

There are many motives for getting someone to help you get fitter. Some may seem more obvious than others.

From the eyes of a Personal Trainer, who also has a Personal Trainer, let’s briefly break some down here now. To start off with, fitness and personal training is booming right now, it’s popular. During the pandemic, the fitness industry went absolutely mad! Take yourself back to when there was a fresh sense of dread in 2020 when Boris stated that you couldn’t leave your home. Everyone was jumping on any kettlebell, dumbbell and plant pot they could find online, tearing their hair out when the only ones available were the weight of a pencil or an elephant. People who weren’t even into fitness before were heading out for their daily “hour” of exercise and dusting off the Lycra, running shoes and vest to exercise daily with Joe Wicks on TV. The pandemic made people realise just how important fitness is and the positive impact it has on all aspects of life.

So, you want to get healthier as you realise how important it is, but you don’t know where to start. What do you do? Well, you go and get someone who is more knowledgeable on the subject to help you out. Folks get a trainer because it helps them to learn a skill. For example, if you didn’t know how to play the piano, you’d get a music teacher. If you didn’t know anything about Microsoft Excel, you’d do a course that would teach you all the aspects of the programme. Therefore, if you want to learn how to exercise safely and properly, you’d get a trainer! You could go it alone, but maybe you’d sound like you were drunk when playing the piano, get fired for saying you are Excel proficient (when in reality you don’t know what all the squiggly formulas mean!) and most likely injure yourself when in the gym.

When you get a trainer, you are investing in learning a skill. A skill that unlike some others, will directly benefit various aspects of your life and also help prolong it.  One of the most impactful effects that I have discovered about Personal Training is that it holds the individual accountable. It offers them a branch of support to hang off of and helps to keep them motivated. I know for a fact that if my coach didn’t push me through all of the sessions he gave me, I’d most likely be lazy and wouldn’t work half as hard as I do when I’m with him.

How many times have you looked across at your alarm going off and thought “ah, one day off the gym won’t hurt”? If you are booked in to see your trainer who you have invested time in and who has invested time in you, then you are more likely to show up and put in the hard graft because they are as well. Starting anything new is daunting and it helps having someone behind you, especially when it comes to your fitness and health. It’s the same as if you were in the pub and fancied someone, and your friends spur you on to muster up some courage to go over and say hi. Support from the people around you is a key ingredient in the recipe for succeeding. Don’t start your fitness journey alone and get yourself the support that you deserve so that you can achieve your goals in 2023.
