Bouldering is rope-free climbing on lower indoor walls, with thick padded mats below to cushion any falls. It’s ideal for beginners due to its easy accessibility, simple setup, and supportive, social atmosphere.
Auto-belay is a form of rope climbing that lets you scale tall indoor walls using a device that automatically catches and lowers you safely, without needing a partner to assist you. You’ll need to wear a climbing harness and clip into the auto-belay before you start. As you climb, the device takes in the rope, and when you’re ready to come down, it gently lowers you to the ground.
Top-rope climbing uses a rope anchored above, with a partner managing it from the ground to keep you secure and protected from falls. It’s safe, social, and great for building confidence. An exciting and engaging progression from auto belay climbing.
Lead climbing starts with the rope clipped in at the ground. As you climb, you clip the rope into quickdraws along the route, with your belayer managing slack below. A great way to progress once you’re comfortable on top-rope and gives you access to all the rope climbing in our centre! Nice!!
You'll spend the full session with your dedicated climbing coach, working through the specific aspects of climbing that you want to focus on. If you're on an intro session, don't worry. Your coach will explain everything and take you through the basics. You can ask questions and work on specific areas you find challenging. Your coach will assess your ability throughout the session and offer tailored advice and techniques to help you improve and work towards your goals.
You’ll want to arrive at least 15 minutes early and ensure you’ve signed up and completed your liability waiver beforehand. If not, your session could be delayed. You’ll be greeted at reception by a crew member who will introduce you to your dedicated climbing coach. They’ll then get you setup and provide you with all the information you’ll need.
You’ll want to wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move freely, basic sports gear is a good choice. Rock climbing is very physical so you’ll likely warm up quite quickly, however consider layering-up as we keep the centre cool and you might get a little chilly whilst not on the climbing wall. Climbing shoes (and harnesses if rope climbing) can rented at the climbing gym and are included in the cost of your Intro session.
Rock climbing is a great way to improve your health whatever your fitness level. Colour coded routes cater for beginners through to advanced levels meaning you can start out on easier grades and level up when ready. Bouldering is as much about technique as it is about strength, meaning all body shapes and sizes can enjoy climbing and reap the benefits regardless of your strength or flexibility level.
Yes, coaching can help you become more confident with falling. Our coaches will teach you the correct way to fall safely and techniques to help minimise the risk of injury. 1:1 sessions allow you to focus on specific areas and if fear of falling is something you'd like to work on, private coaching can absolutely help you overcome this.
